What’s The Deal With Free Guitar Video Lessons?

I don’t know how great ALL free guitar lesson videos are because I have not seen every one on the web. But as far as free sites like youtube and about.com I get a little weary. I mean you can get taught something totally wrong and once you learn a bad habit with guitar it can be difficult to break.

Some tips to help you find good content in what you’re looking for should be a site with a lot of information that covers a lot of different material.

Acoustic covers and tutorials, guitar Lessons, tabs, workshops, guitar information such as repair and reviews too.

On this website I love how straight to the point and easy it is to use, and how cool it is that you can learn a song so fast. The videos are high quality with great angles and clear instruction that you can listen to over and over again. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Solo Guitarists

“It Doesn’t Matter Anyhow” by Jose Feliciano is a good example of great guitar soloist. I also like “After Tonight” by Justin Nozuka.

If you’re thinking about starting gigs as a solo guitarist there are so many things to think about and decide on.

I think it’s important to play music that everyone knows or that applies to the age bracket of the pub you’re doing your gig at.you could take requests. You’ll need to find out what the pub pays, or you could play for tips or charge a cover at the door.

You’ll need to play at least 40 – 45 minutes and 15-20 minute break between sets.

And just remember you’ll probably come across hecklers which i recommend you just ignore. The worst they can do is heckle you and it should give you inspiration to play that much harder and better.

make sure you have a good stage presence and try to interact and involve your audience. maybe you could even take song suggestions from them?

One last tip: change your music around from gig to gig so you dont get boring and people who have seen you before might come back again because you’ve changed things up.

Mastering The Guitar

I dont think anyone truly masters the guitar because there is always new things to learn. Rhythm, cords and scales are all a big part of learning to master the guitar. It takes lots of practice and hard work. You can also take into consideration how generally “naturally gifted” you are. By that I mean how quickly you took up the basics of finger placement and chord transition.

Some take 2 years to become what most would say good, others may take 5 or 6. It really depends on the individual.

I think the most important factor that comes into play with how well you play guitar (as with any instrument) is how much you practice. It definatly should be daily, probably for at LEAST an hour.

But it’s also important not to wear yourself out and get frustrated. I say practice and play daily for a year before you decide if guitar is right for you.

If you need help mastering the guitar I suggest an online guitar guru by the name of Ben Edwards. He’s well educated and has a great online course to teach newbie to advanced students.

Play Guitar Using Free Resources

It does not matter if you like to play electric or acoustic or if you’re interested in such genres like rock, pop or blues there are people online who love guitar as much as you and give advice, post videos and write in forums to help you get to your desired level of expertise.

And If you get tired of what’s out there with free resources here’s a review of a great online course I like that you should check out.

There are also Tabs which are a fun way to play guitar and there are tons of places online that offer free tabulature sheet music. You may have to sign up as a member for a small fee at first though.

Some places to check out are about.com and ehow.com and you can ask questions at yahooanswers or ask.com about things like scales or major and minor cords.

It’s great that there is so much information on the world wide web regarding where to get guitar lessons and taking them online. But it can be confusing and you dont want to end up with a terrible product that leaves you with no futher knowledge but less weight in your pockets.

When you first start out tuning your guitar can be hard because it takes practice to hear what the notes are supposed to sound like. For this problem and a short remedy until you can learn this skill you just have to go down to your local music shop and buy an electric tuner or you can buy one online I’m sure. But either way it’s important to find guitar lessons online that guide you in the steps to tuning your guitar properly. It is a very important foundation building step to becoming a good guitarist.

We all know that private instruction can be very expensive and you are a little tied down to a certain time which you have to be home or at your instructors house. So, for those of us that have children, or on any kind of budget or time constraint guitar lessons online are a great option.

For some, private instruction is the only way to learn and swear by it. I personally believe that online lessons are just as good, but you’re the only one holding you to your practices not an instructor. In the end I suspect it’s a personal choice but online lessons are worth the try if for just the cheap cost alone.

There are lots of reasons why someone picks up a guitar. It could be to show off to friends or because they have dreams of hitting it big as a rock star or even for no reason other than they love the sound a guitar makes.

Whatever your reasons, it’s always nice to find something free to help you learn new tips and tricks along the way. So when it comes to online there are many routes and choices you have to help you.

There are lots of articles and sites dedicated to helping you learn the basics such as which notes are which and what a major and minor chord is. Also forums are a good idea to ask questions to people who love guitar as much as you do and who knows you could make a friend or too.

Another way you could play guitar for free online is with videos. Sites like YouTube have people just playing a song to actual instruction but you have to be careful because sometimes there can be misinformation out there. If the lesson is not very good then so will your playing.
